The BMW DIS (Dealer Information System) software, although now somewhat outdated, was a diagnostic and programming tool used by BMW dealerships and service centers. It was primarily designed to interface with BMW vehicles' onboard computer systems for the purpose of diagnosing and programming various electronic components.

Key features of BMW DIS software included:

1. Diagnosis:It allowed technicians to read and interpret fault codes stored in the vehicle's computer system, helping identify issues with various components such as the engine, transmission, ABS, and more.

2. Programming:DIS enabled programming and coding of vehicle control modules. This was essential for updating software, configuring new components, or adapting the vehicle to specific requirements.

3. Live Data:Technicians could access real-time data from the vehicle's sensors and systems, which was helpful in diagnosing problems, fine-tuning performance, and monitoring various parameters.

4. Component Testing:It provided the ability to initiate tests on specific vehicle components, such as sensors, actuators, and modules, to ensure they were functioning correctly.

5. Vehicle Information:DIS software offered access to detailed information about the vehicle, including VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) decoding, production data, and vehicle options.

Please note that as of my last knowledge update in September 2021, BMW had started transitioning to newer diagnostic and programming tools like ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application). ISTA has since become the standard diagnostic software for BMW vehicles, replacing older systems like DIS.
